If you’re a content creator on Instagram, you know how much time it can take to craft the perfect post. From the copy, the hashtags, and of course, the photo or video you’d like to share, there’s a lot to keep in mind. That’s why scheduling your Instagram posts in advance can be an absolute game-changer!
You may be asking yourself, “What’s the best Instagram scheduler out there?” In the below step-by-step guide, we’ll show you how to shift from manually posting to building out a full-fledged Instagram content calendar that will save you time and stress.
Facebook Creator Studio
The simplest way to automate Instagram posts is to use Facebook’s Creator Studio. Suppose you don’t have experience with a third-party Instagram scheduling app. In that case, Creator Studio offers a way for anyone with a Facebook account to easily schedule both Facebook and Instagram posts in advance.
Getting Started with Facebook Creator Studio
Step 1: Once logged into Creator Studio, go to “Settings” on the far left. From there, click on Instagram Connection.
Step 2: Click “Connect Instagram.”
Step 3: Click “Connect Account.”
Step 4: At this point, Facebook may ask some questions about how Instagram will access messages, switching accounts, and two-factor verification. Complete these steps per your needs to move on.
Step 5: Click the Instagram icon to go to the Instagram section.
Step 6: Click “Instagram Feed.”
Step 7: Select the account you would like to post to.
Step 8: Add a caption or location.
Step 9: Click “Add Content” and select the photo(s) or video(s) you’d like to post.
Once your media finishes uploading, you’ll have an opportunity to tag accounts by selecting the "Tag Accounts" icon in the bottom right of the thumbnail preview. If your media is an image, you’ll also have the option to crop & resize.
Go down to the bottom-right and click the arrow next to the blue “Publish” button. From there, you can select “Schedule.” Choose your preferred time and date. The blue “Publish” button has now shifted to “Schedule.” Click this, and you’ll be good to go!
Getting Started with Later
Step 1: Once you’ve logged into your Later account, go to Settings > Social Sets & Access Groups.
Step 2: Find the “Access Group” with the relevant Instagram profile and click “Edit.”
Step 3: Click “Enable” next to your Instagram profile. In the pop-up that appears, follow each step until you have access to Later. That’s it!
Note: you’ll need to make sure the account you are connecting has “Admin” or “Editor” roles for the Facebook page in question
Scheduling with Later
The first thing you’ll need to do is upload your assets to the “Media Library” listed in the upper left of the tool. From there, you’ll be able to upload any photos or videos you like in bulk, storing them for easy access at any time.
When you’re ready to schedule content, click “Calendar.”
On the left side of the screen, you should now see a minimized version of the “Media Library” containing all of your content, while on the right, you’ll see your content calendar where you can schedule content, leave notes, and toggle on or off accounts you want to post to.
Once you select the account(s) you want to post to from the top of the calendar, simply click and drag any photos or videos from the “Media Library” onto a time slot you’d like to schedule for.
Your content’s editing window should now appear, where you can add a caption, location, a link to any web page (including your Willow link-in-bio 👀), or tag friends & brands.
While there are other optional features you can use like “Saved Captions” and the “Photo Editor,” to get your post scheduled, all you should need to do is click “Save.”
Note: due to Instagram’s API, Later’s “Auto Publish” feature only works for posts that include a single photo or video. If you’d like to schedule posts with more than one media asset attached, you’ll need to use Later’s “Mobile Notifications.”
You can now schedule your posts! If you need to adjust the time slot you’ve chosen after the fact, simply click and drag the content’s square to anywhere else on the calendar.
